Rear Window Channel Repair

I wasn't able to make it down to the garage this week because of work, but my Master Auto Body friend started replacing the metal around the rear window.  I also want to take this opportunity to thank Mr. F for helping me with this project, without him it simply wouldn't be possible.

A lot of the metal has rusted away from around the rear window
 Tools of the trade
New metal bent and in place
 Welding like a boss
 Grinding like a boss
Finished new metal with fiberglass coating, look 100% better -- all the front and rear window metal that is in bad shape will be replaced.

New Trunk Lid!

New trunk lid has arrived for the Impala from Texas.  It looks great -- no dents, very little surface rust.  I'm going to keep it off the car for now, so it can be painted separately.

Today we took out both windows of the impala so we can work on the window channels.  New metal will go in both the front and back window.  Update coming soon:  New LH rear fender patch panel.

Gotta keep your eye on the prize! :)

Impala Work 2013

4/18 Marks the first day of work on the Impala for the new year!

New front breaks were installed (the left side was completely gone).   Floor pans got a few more last welds and seam sealer is going on.  We also took measurements to replace the toe board (nobody makes replacement sheet metal for a '67 yet).

See A Penny, Pick It Up

"Four Score and Seven Years Ago, I Had A Funny Hat."
While my brother was cleaning out the floor of the Impala, he found a penny.  Big deal, right?  But this was no ordinary penny--this was a penny from 1967.  The same year as the car.  From the condition of the poor thing, that penny may have been on that floor for the past 45 years.  It's a special penny.  And we all remember how much Dean likes Abraham Lincoln.  Now I'm on a mission to find a special way of preserving it.  My brother and I are thinking some kind of keychain.  Any ideas?

Welding Complete!

The floors are in!

Welding action shot!

No more holes!
All in all, the floors are looking pretty good.  Stay tuned for an update on the carburetor!  It's looking a lot better than last time.
